  HWRCs

We are a key player in researching and promoting good practice at HWRCs. We have studied or provided consultancy support for over 200 UK sites, examining a wide range of HWRC management issues, focussing in particular on maximising recycling rates. By providing practical and sound advice to numerous local authorities and waste management companies on how to get the most out of their HWRCs, we have earned an enviable reputation in the industry.

We have produced several influential reports on HWRC management, including the National Assessment of Civic Amenity Sites (NACAS), which was the overall winner of the Biffaward Awards in 2004.

Why work with your HWRCs?

  • help maximise recycling performance and operational efficiency
  • be compliant with Hazardous Waste and WEEE Regulations
  • measure levels of trade abuse and reduce trade waste inputs
  • enable you to cut costs and maximise operational efficiencies
  • assess the impact of kerbside collection systems (alternate weekly, garden waste collections, etc) on HWRC inputs

How we can help you with managing your HWRCs:

  • provision of design options for redeveloping existing sites or developing new sites
  • advice on financial costs/benefits of implementing HWRC improvements, including modelling of LATS implications
  • design of HWRC management contracts
  • provision of staff consultation, motivation and training programmes
  • recommend solutions to cross-border usage issues
  • undertake site-user attitudinal surveys
  • carry-out waste composition analysis: waste analysis and monitoring

 Bring sites at multi-occupancy buildings

Resource Futures also has extensive experience of optimising collections from other bring sites particularly those servicing flats or multi-occupancy buildings. We having been running the RIFE project in Bristol since 2004, working with recycling service providers, managing agents, caretakers, landlords and residents to provide and promote suitable recycling infrastructure and to ensure that facilities are used to their maximum potential.

Multi-occupancy dwellings can make a substantial contribution to recycling tonnages but require a specialist approach as residents are not always reached by traditional communication methods and the siting of facilities can have a huge impact on their acceptability and the resultant tonnage collected.

 How we can help

We can offer a full project set up and delivery service or consultancy and project staff to help with specific tasks or act as advisor on all or some of the following:

  • selection of target properties including analysis of where tonnage increases are likely to be greatest
  • auditing the existing provision and tonnages collected
  • development of robust monitoring systems for accurate data collection
  • liaison with residents, caretakers, landlords and management companies, which can include consultation and research into existing barriers to recycling
  • specification of infrastructure requirements, working in partnership with service providers to ensure that all specifications have been “reality checked”
  • promotional materials and communications campaigns
