The Big Climate Event

Over 150 people attended the Big Climate Event at Oxford Town Hall on Saturday 7th November 2009. The event was organised by the Community Action Group Project, (which is managed by Resource Futures) and Climate Xchange.

With a diverse range of workshops, the Big Climate Event brought together key people from Oxfordshire to share their experiences, and to give practical help and advice about some of the more innovative projects and cutting-edge ways of tackling climate change on the ground.

Opening the Big Climate EventThe event was specifically aimed at both new and existing Oxfordshire groups engaged in action on climate change. 

The Right Worshipful the Lord Mayor of Oxford Councillor Mary Clarkson opened the event and  Oxford Sheriff Councillor Elise Benjamin added her thoughts. Ian Curtis gave an inspirational address which was followed by practical ‘how to...' activities and plenty of time for informal networking, finishing with wine and live music!

  • Meet other groups, learn from each other, strengthen your work and share  best practice
  • Skill share of specific ideas to involve your community in carbon and waste reduction
  • Provide inspiration, ideas and support for starting up new projects and community groups
  • Showcase local agencies and organisations that can provide help and support

Project Synopses

Engaging the Residents of North London with Love Food Hate Waste

Resource Futures recruited and managed two embedded Outreach Workers to support the North London Waste Authority’s, WRAP funded, Love Food Hate Waste campaign. During the seven month period, the Outreach Workers organised and delivered over sixty roadshows in supermarkets, businesses, libraries and at community groups, across NLWA’s seven constituent boroughs, to engage more than 3,500 people with the campaign.

Assessing Bulky Waste in Northern Ireland

Resource Futures carried out a comprehensive review of bulky wastes in Northern Ireland. The review considered quantities arising, types, sources and destinations of bulky waste materials; and importantly the capacity for reuse of such material.The report is intended to be a useful contribution to the waste prevention strand of the Northern Ireland Waste Management Strategy.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, Good Practice Guidance

Whilst Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) recycling activity is firmly established in the UK, its collection and treatment is a rapidly growing and evolving sector. WRAP research reveals that the average household has 3 old or broken WEEE items stored in the home, therefore there are millions of items out there just waiting to be collected…
