Bulky Waste Guidance
Resource Futures was contracted by WRAP to develop Bulky Waste Guidance for Local Authorities in association with Caroline Lee-Smith. The guidance updated the original toolkit “Bulky Waste Collections; Maximising Reuse and Recycling - A Step by Step Guide” which provides ideas and identifies opportunities to increase the amount of household bulky waste that is reused and recycled.
The guidance is now available on the WRAP website here and it covers both collections from households and provision of services at Household Waste Recycling Centres. The guide is aimed at local authority staff and partners who are involved in the delivery of services and/or the promotion of services.
The project involved a full literature review of bulky waste collections and HWRC options, and gathering input from local authorities. The guidance offers advice on
· communications
· data management
· costing services
· health and safety and risk mitigation
Resource Futures also considered what is reusable and recyclable in the bulky waste stream and the social, economic and environmental benefits of recycling and reusing bulky waste. As part of the project, we also developed a number of good practice case studies which are included within the guidance document.
