Communications for Waste Partnerships

In 2008/09, Resource Futures conducted a project on behalf of WRAP which involved researching how various waste partnerships in England organise and deliver their waste and recycling communications.

It involved a similar series of tasks to that required for development of the case studies and guidance for Local Authorities during this project, including:

  • consideration of the criteria for selection (e.g. involvement in different stages of the PFI process),

  • identification of potential waste partnerships which matched these criteria,

  • identification of appropriate interviewees within the partnerships (including representatives from lead Local Authorities, partner authorities, and communications staff and, where appropriate, collection contractors),

  • making approaches to these potential interviewees to explain the project, obtain their permission for involvement, and schedule interviews

  • development of a topic guide for use during semi-structured interviews

  • gathering of background information on selected partnerships to inform interview process

  • conducting of face-to-face and telephone interviews

  • collation and analysis of qualitative data obtained

  • Production of a final report summarising findings and making overall recommendations for waste partnership communications in the future.
