This work is strategically very significant for waste management and recycling in the United Kingdom. We found that food waste collected in refuse and composting collections has reduced by about one million tonnes in recent years. A variety of factors is likely to be at work, but undoubtedly campaigns like Love Food Hate Waste and the increase in the number of food waste collections, have had an important impact.
There is still a huge amount of food wasted in the UK and reducing food waste will continue to be high up on the agenda in the future.
