Support to the waste industry - rolling out new recycling collections

TOR2 (May Gurney and Torbay Council)

In 2010 Joint Venture Company TOR2, was formed between May Gurney and Torbay Council and Resource Futures played a key communications role in supporting their major recycling changes.

Alastair Campbell (TOR2) said of Resource Futures: ‘Resource Futures has been integral to making this service roll-out a success. Indeed, within the first two weeks of the new services Torbay residents recycled a staggering 670 tonnes of material. This was an 87 per cent increase from the 370 tonnes collected in the last two full week period under the old "two bin" system. We have been very glad to work with a partner who we can trust to deliver their part of the contract on time, to quality and with great insight to the challenges we were facing.’

Torbay Council said of Resource Futures: ‘We were very glad to see that TOR2 were considering using Resource Futures as their communications and community engagement contractor, as we knew, from the schools waste education programme that they already deliver across Devon, that Resource Futures bring a quality and professionalism to the job. We have greatly enjoyed working alongside them during the roll-out and look forward to working with them on more targeted communications work next year.’

South West Waste and Recycling Forum – food waste reduction campaign

In autumn 2009, the South West Waste and Recycling Forum (SWWRF) and Resource Futures worked with all the 35 local authorities (LAs) across the South West to deliver a collaborative campaign on food waste reduction.

Liz Poulter (Devon County Council) said of Resource Futures: ‘For the efficient running of the campaign, it was important that Resource Futures, who already knew all about what we hoped to do and achieve, were asked to manage aspects of the project at an early stage. Their drive, attention to detail and general ability to understand and report on the campaign and understand its nuances at a local level, stood us in great stead.’

Oxfordshire Waste Partnership - Waste Reduction Strategy and Plan

In 2009 Resource Futures were commissioned by Oxfordshire Waste Partnership (OWP) to undertake a strategic review of their Waste Reduction Strategy and Plan and to make recommendations for the future.

Wayne Lewis from Oxfordshire Waste Partnership said: ‘In 2009, Resource Futures carried out a review of the Waste Reduction Strategy for Oxfordshire to 2014. This included a desk-based review of all strategies and plans, analysis of existing data, reports and other documentation, as well as interviews with stakeholders. We were very pleased with the outcomes of this work, which was carried out in a professional manner, within both budget and timescales. The findings have been instrumental in ensuring that our waste reduction work stays focussed on key priorities. We would be very happy to use Resource Futures again for work of this type.’
