About Resource Futures
Resource Futures is committed to a vision of everybody using resources sustainably. We are a purpose-driven company which contributes to the communities we work and live in. Our core values of integrity, independence and commitment are what make us different.
Founded in 2006, we are employee-owned and non-profit-distributing with a 30-year heritage in the waste and resources industry. Our brand is built around being forward-thinking and looking for continuous improvement in the services we provide. We are part of the B Corp movement and take an ethical approach to business to make a positive difference in the world.
We are seeking a motivated and experienced individual to join our consultancy team providing technical support to local government. These are exciting times in municipal waste management, particularly following the release of Defra’s long-awaited Resources and Waste Management Strategy which sets out an ambitious road-map for local government. This is an excellent opportunity to join a dynamic consultancy team that is playing a key role in helping local government deliver services and helping central government to develop policy.
The term will initially be for a period of 6 months but with the potential for extension. This role will be evaluated according to business needs when the fixed term maternity cover role is obsolete.
Nature and scope
The primary focus of this position is to play a leading role in our support to local government clients on waste and resource management issues. The successful candidate will also need to have the ability to support other elements of Resource Futures’ consultancy work, including working with central government, non-profits and business (for example, assisting with policy analysis projects for our central government clients).
You will be responsible for developing, managing and delivering high quality technical support to local government clients. Specific responsibilities will include:
- Providing knowledge leadership on municipal waste and resource management issues
- Undertaking new business development and marketing activities to build client relationships
- Writing successful bids and proposals
- Managing colleague’s delivery on projects and taking on some line management responsibilities
- Working with the Executive team and colleagues as appropriate to promote the company. This will include attendance and presentations at events as required in the role.
You will have senior management experience in local government and/or extensive experience of working with local government on technical waste and resource management issues. It is also essential that you have a demonstrated ability to apply this experience and knowledge in a consultancy context.
You will have excellent knowledge of local government services. As a minimum, this will include extensive technical experience in several of the following: kerbside systems, Household Waste & Recycling Centre (HWRC) operations, contract procurement, materials recovery facilities, waste prevention and strategy development. Experience of street scene, commercial waste operations and/or residual waste treatment and disposal would also be desirable.
The role requires excellent technical and project management skills to deliver high quality consultancy for private, public and non-profit clients. The post holder will be commercially minded with the ability to perform well under pressure.
The successful candidate will need to be able to keep abreast of the rapidly developing context and policy environment affecting waste and resource management and demonstrate that they are committed to continually developing their own skills and knowledge in this area.
