Flats Recycling Support Officers required in Torbay

Flats Recycling Support Officers (x2, fixed-term contract for 2 months) are needed for an exciting project working in Torbay, helping residents living in blocks of flats use a new recycling collection service and encouraging them to recycle more.

Duties will include:
-    Assessing  properties for suitability  for communal recycling facilities and their location on site
-    Liaising between landlords, managing agents and Tor2 about the recycling facilities
-    Promoting the scheme before the roll out of the new service in the blocks
-    Educating residents about their communal recycling facilities
-    Delivering promotion materials
-    Monitoring the new scheme
-    Recording recycling behaviours
-    General assisting with the change in service

The salary is £18,000 pro rata.  This is a full time, 2 month fix-term contract.

Waste Composition Operatives (various temporary work)

£7.35 per hour (guaranteed 7 hours per working day)

The Waste and Recycling Operations team are looking for people to join our pool of casual staff, to carry out waste composition work.  We are particularly looking for experienced drivers of large vehicles such as long wheel base Ford Transits and Mercedes Sprinters.

You will collect household waste and recycling, transport it to a local depot, hand sort it into different categories and record the results.  You will be part of a small friendly team which will travel from our Bristol depot to different parts of the UK, generally for five consecutive days work.

The work helps improve local authority knowledge and understanding of the household waste stream and provides practical waste operations experience for anyone looking for a career in the environment or waste industry.

Accommodation, subsistence expenses and protective clothing are provided.  The work would suit people that want flexibility in their work commitments and are happy to work away from home for short periods.

You must be reliable, motivated, practical, methodical and used to getting your hands dirty.

Short Term Contracts

We are often looking for staff for short term contracts in the following roles in different areas of the country:

Recycling canvassers:

You will talk to people on their doorstep promoting recycling or other waste issues, for example explaining about a new recycling service and answering questions about it.

Doorstep surveyors:

You will carry out monitoring of individual household recycling using a doorstep questionnaire to find out how people use the recycling system and barriers to recycling.

Participation/contamination monitors:

You will monitor the doorstep set out rates for various dry recycling and composting kerbside collection systems.

Project Synopses

Engaging the Residents of North London with Love Food Hate Waste

Resource Futures recruited and managed two embedded Outreach Workers to support the North London Waste Authority’s, WRAP funded, Love Food Hate Waste campaign. During the seven month period, the Outreach Workers organised and delivered over sixty roadshows in supermarkets, businesses, libraries and at community groups, across NLWA’s seven constituent boroughs, to engage more than 3,500 people with the campaign.

Assessing Bulky Waste in Northern Ireland

Resource Futures carried out a comprehensive review of bulky wastes in Northern Ireland. The review considered quantities arising, types, sources and destinations of bulky waste materials; and importantly the capacity for reuse of such material.The report is intended to be a useful contribution to the waste prevention strand of the Northern Ireland Waste Management Strategy.

Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment, Good Practice Guidance

Whilst Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) recycling activity is firmly established in the UK, its collection and treatment is a rapidly growing and evolving sector. WRAP research reveals that the average household has 3 old or broken WEEE items stored in the home, therefore there are millions of items out there just waiting to be collected…
