Community action

Empowering communities to take action to tackle environmental challenges.

The power that communities hold to bring about regenerative change cannot be underestimated. Yet there are often barriers that prevent people from accessing the knowledge, skills and collaboration opportunities that will help them unlock substantial positive action with their community.

Together we achieve more

We help groups and organisations to harness the full potential of community action: from providing advisory and educational support to engaging directly with communities to encourage the uptake of circular habits around reuse, repair and recycling.

Community Action Groups networks

Our CAG networks support and empower community groups within their geographic remit to act towards a more sustainable future. We’ve managed groups in Oxfordshire, Devon and, since 2023, in Somerset as well.

Education and advisory

Our education experts can deliver a wide range of workshops, assemblies, resources, training and visits to support the reduction of waste at home and school, helping to embed the 3Rs (Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) and composting into the curriculum and everyday school life.

Set up support and on-going guidance

We work with Local Authorities and organisations to develop tailored and engaging projects that are informed by local strategy and meet the specific needs of communities. We underpin project development with research, and can work collaboratively to secure funding.

Reuse and waste prevention networks

We have been managing reuse and waste prevention networks for communities of interest for more than thirty years, including Dulux’s flagship sustainability programme Community RePaint.

Community engagement

We can support and manage hands-on community engagement programmes that work directly with communities around reuse, repair and recycling. Our Fixy van has become a regular fixture across Somerset, helping rural communities to access reuse and repair services for their broken and unneeded electrical items, while we also work on the ground in Gloucestershire to increase the uptake of reusable nappies.

Measurement tools (Resource CIT)

The Resource Community Impacts Tool (ResourceCIT) is our easy-to-use online tool for monitoring and evaluation of sustainable development activities. It enables community groups and funders to demonstrate their impact by calculating how they reduce waste, carbon, energy and save money for individuals and the community.
