Bristol Green Capital Partnership – a city-wide movement for change

17 October 2018

Resource Futures is proud to be a founding member of the Bristol Green Capital Partnership which has just published its annual review for 2017/18, highlighting its contribution towards a more environmentally sustainable city and celebrating the collaborative approach that Bristol is renowned for. We’re looking forward to working with partners on the priorities set out for the next three years: working towards being a Gold Award Sustainable Food City; a route-map for Bristol to become a Circular Economy City; a focus on Environmental Justice. We look forward to helping make Bristol a more sustainable city for everyone.

Widely seen as the largest city-level partnership of its kind in the world, the Partnership has been working collectively towards an environmentally sustainable, low carbon city for over 11 years. The network is supported by Bristol Green Capital Partnership community interest company, which supports Partnership members and promotes environmental sustainability throughout Bristol and the wider region – providing a leadership voice and enabling collaboration and collective action across sectors towards a shared vision of a sustainable city with a high quality of life for all.

The new Annual Review showcases key projects from the 2017/18 programme and highlights the important role that the Partnership has played in enabling people to work together for positive change in the city. It also announces three priorities for the next three years, on which the Partnership will focus its impact: becoming a Gold Award Sustainable Food City, circular Bristol and environmental equality.

The Annual Review has been published ahead of Green Great Britain Week – a new national initiative to drive clean growth and promote the benefits of transitioning to low carbon – running from  15 – 19 October.

Mohammed Saddiq, chair of the Partnership, said: “We are proud of the strong partnerships we have built in the last year, enabling us to develop and deliver innovative and important initiatives such as the Green and Black Ambassadors, support community-led projects through the Better Bristol campaign and engage organisations in the drive to become the first ‘Gold’ standard sustainable food city in the UK.

“I would like to thank all of the Partnership’s member organisations and all those who have contributed their valuable time or expertise, and in particular our strategic partner members whose support enables us to strengthen the Partnership and deliver our key objectives – Avon Wildlife Trust, Bristol City Council, Business West – The Initiative, Centre for Sustainable Energy, Resource Futures, Sustrans, Triodos Bank, University of Bristol and University of the West of England, Bristol.”

Ian Townsend, Chief Executive of the Partnership said: “We’re really excited about what’s ahead for the Partnership over the next three years and beyond and look forward to engaging with members around our three priorities of sustainable food city, a circular Bristol and environmental equality. We invite our members and other organisations in the city to get involved, support us and help to create even more opportunities for creating a more sustainable city for all.”
