Multi-award winning Recofloor scheme now part of Resource Futures
2 December 2024
Resource Futures will take on the management of multiple award winning Recofloor programme as of November 2024, after flooring manufacturers Altro and Polyfloor commissioned it to oversee the day-to-day operations of their scheme to recover and recycle vinyl flooring in the UK.
Originally conceived as part of a WRAP pilot project and previously managed by Axion Group, Recofloor is funded jointly by Altro and Polyfloor. Available for contractors, distributors and even architects and facilities managers, the scheme offers a sustainable alternative to landfill for businesses looking to manage their discarded vinyl by collecting and recycling it, providing an opportunity to drive down waste, cut costs and reduce the environmental impact of their activities.

The existing Recofloor team – Carla Eslava and Annabel Melia – will continue in their roles as part of this transition, with Resource Futures providing additional management and support from across its wider team.
Recofloor will join a roster of other sustainability-focused community projects overseen by Resource Futures, which includes paint reuse programme Community RePaint, Community Action Group networks in Devon and Somerset, the electrical waste awareness scheme Fixy and the Real Nappy Project in Gloucestershire, which advocates for reusable alternatives to single-use products.
“Businesses regularly face the same sustainability challenges as their competitors and often the best way to make a difference can be to come together to tackle these issues,” comments Bethan Jones, Director at Resource Futures. “That is what we see with the collaboration between Altro and Polyflor to create Recofloor; we’re delighted to welcome this initiative to Resource Futures as another key community programme tackling waste challenges.”
Paul Smallman, Director of Polyflor and Matt Robison, Director of Altro, shared their genuine desire to tackle the impact of their products in the environment.
Paul Smallman says: “Both partners are committed to continuing the great work of the Recofloor scheme and supporting the industry to make cost-effective and environmentally-sound decisions when it comes to vinyl flooring disposal.”
Matt Robinson adds: “Resource Futures has vast experience in running similar projects and the wider waste and resources industry, so it was a clear choice for us in taking Recofloor forwards.”
About Recofloor
Recofloor is the national commercial waste vinyl collection service founded in 2009 by flooring manufacturers Altro and Polyflor. The scheme collects smooth, safety and luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) post-installation offcuts – as well as loose lay, uplifted smooth vinyl and roll-ends – and recycles this into new products, including flooring.
The scheme operates in two ways: it offers collections directly from project sites and contractors’ premises, or small volumes of day-to-day waste vinyl can be dropped off at any participating flooring distributor across the UK.
Recofloor provides industry with a sustainable, economical and easy-to-use route to recover and recycle waste vinyl.
