Ground breaking change doesn’t happen until you get people on board. Systems and programmes alone won’t shift behaviours – clear, compelling communications are essential to inspire action.

“Resource Futures provided us with insights into local reuse organisations and ways of working together to achieve more through various reuse options. They identified several barriers experienced by existing groups and helping us shape initiatives that overcome those barriers.”

Frequently asked questions
Changes mandated by Simpler Recycling are coming up fast. What should our core focus be?
There is a need to bring both businesses and residents on board with the new collection services mandated by Simpler Recycling, and we can support you with both. We have a tailored food waste reduction service for businesses aimed at driving commercial engagement in new collections and get them involved in this conversation. And we have extensive experience of supporting service change – be it through modelling collection options, running public consultations, creating communication plans, activity plans and communications collateral, and supporting the pilot and measurement of new services.

We want to move beyond recycling and strive for more circularity and waste reduction. Is that something you can help with?
Absolutely, encouraging people to adopt behaviours further up the waste hierarchy must become the new normal. In our own experience this brings interesting challenges as people consider recycling as “doing their bit” – and of the same value as reuse or reduction activities. So, we need innovative communication methods to change mindsets. Waste minimisation ambitions should be considered in all communications – whether you’re heading towards a service change, looking to increase your recycling rate, or trying to improve participation in collections. We’ll take a strategic behavioural lens to your specific needs and draw out how you can best support your audience to reconsider decisions and impact their motivation to change.

We’re really low on both people and financial resources. How can a consultancy help?
We’re aware budgets are tight. Our team brings a wealth of expertise and practical experience in waste and recycling, so you can draw on us for as much (or little) bespoke support as you need. We could step in to fill a gap, providing one off support services such as a training session for canvassers, a facilitated priorities workshop or to build a resident survey. We could help you build your internal capacity over time through being a critical friend, or providing fieldwork monitoring support. And we can provide a full end to end solution, cocreating projects from foundational research to full intervention roll out including funding application.
