David Squire

Community RePaint Network Co-ordinator

Profile

In 2020 David set up Edinburgh’s first home grown cargo bike delivery service, directly replacing vans on the streets of the capital with a genuinely sustainable alternative. He also helped set up Scotland’s first dedicated cargo bike hub to provide information and access to facilitate everyday behavioural change.

Joining Resource Futures, David continues to champion sustainability practices and circular economy thinking, working with community projects across the country as part of the Community RePaint Network. His role focuses on:

  • helping the project realise its full potential and broaden the collection and redistribution of leftover paint;
  • building and maintaining relationships with existing schemes and projects within the Community RePaint Network;
  • expanding the network by increasing the number of community projects involved and quantity of paint reused,

Expertise

Completing a Masters in Environmental Sustainability in 2018 gave David the theoretical knowledge and personal inspiration to pursue a career that has a positive impact in the world. He spent the following years setting up and supporting initiatives that champion local responses to the climate and ecological crises and social injustice. This has involved:

  • helping to imbed sustainability and waste reduction practices into community action;
  • pioneering novel interventions in the active travel and sustainable logistics landscape;
  • advising local and national government on improvements to, and integration of, infrastructure to increase use and accessibility.
