Professor Mike Shaver joins Resource Futures Board
10 December 2025
We are delighted to announce Professor Mike Shaver as our new Non-Executive Director, confirmed at Resource Futures’ Annual General Meeting in early December.
A Professor of Polymer Science and Director of the Sustainable Materials Innovation Hub at the University of Manchester, Mike brings world-class expertise in sustainable materials and circular innovation.
Mike and his research team lead internationally respected research into sustainable, circular, and functional polymers and materials. His work champions and advances sustainable innovation and waste management solutions that deliver both environmental and economic benefits.

“Mike’s appointment marks an exciting addition to our Board. His expertise strongly complements our mission to help organisations make smarter decisions and implement circular practices that drive climate-positive impact.
“His insight and leadership will be invaluable as we continue to support government, industry, and NGOs in shaping policies and strategies that accelerate the shift to a truly regenerative society.”
Sam Reeve, CEO at Resource Futures
Mike’s influence extends beyond academia – advising local authorities and industrial partners on sustainability and plastics across packaging, automotive and healthcare sectors. He has contributed to national and international policy development, including evidence-based submissions on the Plastic Packaging Tax, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), the UN Treaty on Plastic Pollution, biodegradation, and chemical recycling.
His team has supported more than 100 commercial partners – from SMEs to multinationals – helping them to understand the environmental consequences of material choices and ways to improve the circularity of their operations.
Mike joins a dynamic Board chaired by sustainable business expert Kate Martin Bruintjes, alongside creative and commercial specialist Matt Crisp. His appointment comes at a significant time for Resource Futures, following the recent addition of Doug Simpson as Waste Strategy Lead. Formally of ReLondon and the Greater London Authority, Doug brings deep expertise in waste infrastructure and circular business development.
