Tackling Marine Litter – Fishing and Aquaculture Gear

18 November 2025

Fishing and aquaculture gear is a global problem when abandoned, lost, or discarded. As marine litter it is harming ecosystems and threatening the marine environment.

Simply put, marine litter represents a failure in product and waste management.

It’s why we’re working with governments and industry to understand the problem and identify innovative solutions to manage waste gear responsibly.

Resource Futures’ three-step approach:

  1. Quantify gear use and waste
  2. Design effective policy solutions
  3. Improve and expand recycling
